Top 10 self-care mistakes every new mom makes. Are you guilty of these too?

Welcome to Momhood Mayhem - where we shed light on the realities of momhood and tackle the messy parts:

Today, we're diving into the top ten self-care blunders that new moms often make. It's no secret that taking care of yourself can easily slip down the priority list when you become a mom.

But here's the thing: neglecting self-care is more common than you might think. Join us as we uncover these common mistakes and remind ourselves why it's crucial to prioritize our own well-being amidst the chaos of motherhood.

1. Neglecting Sleep 😴

Oh, the irony of being sleep-deprived while nursing an expert sleeper. Newsflash: Sleeping when the baby sleeps is not as easy as it sounds. But not prioritizing rest? That's like signing up for permanent zombiehood. I know you probably rolled your eyes at me when you saw that this was number one, but hold your titties - no seriously, they're falling out!

Whew, that was a close one👀

It's important to sleep for so many reasons, and I know you know them so I won't go into major detail. The goal is to ensure you have a plan and boundaries set in place so you have a safe space to regenerate yourself on all levels.

Assert yourself by doing the following with your supportive partner or family member, it is called the Assertiveness Formula

2. Skipping Meals

It's easy to forget to eat when you're busy looking after a small dictator who can't even say 'please' yet. But remember, you can't pour from an empty cup, or in this case, an empty stomach. Don't skip meals, or soon you'll be seeing unicorns in broad daylight.

3. Ignoring Mental Health

Postpartum hormones have a mind of their own. Ignoring your mental health is like playing Jenga with your sanity. It's all fun and games until the tower crumbles.

4. Avoiding Help

We get it, you're Supermom. But even superheroes have sidekicks. Accepting help doesn't mean you're failing. It just means you're smart (and sane) enough to know when to delegate.

5. Neglecting Hydration

The golden rule of breastfeeding? Hydrate or deflate. Remember, you're basically a hydration station for your little one. So, keep the water flowing!

6. Isolating Oneself

Becoming a new mom doesn't mean you have to take up residency in Solitudeville. It's okay – and necessary – to socialize. Remember, you're a human being, not a baby-making, baby-feeding robot.

7. **Setting Unrealistic Expectations**: If you're expecting your parenting journey to look like a scene straight out of a glossy magazine, it's time for a reality check. Parenting isn't perfect, and neither are you. And that's okay!

8. **Neglecting Physical Health**: Exercise? Who has the time, right? But contrary to popular belief, moving your body isn't a luxury, it's a necessity. Even if that just means dancing in the living room during baby's nap time.

9. **Not Taking Breaks**: Constant baby care without a breather is the express train to Burnout City. Hop off for a bit, take a break. Trust me, the world won't fall apart in 20 minutes.

10. **Overlooking Hobbies**: Remember when you had interests outside of the color and consistency of baby poop? It's time to revisit those. Engaging in your hobbies helps you maintain your identity outside of 'mom'.

There you have it folks, the top ten self-care mistakes we often make as new moms. So, let's try to dodge these pitfalls and remember, it's not selfish to take care of yourself. After all, your little one needs you at your best, and you deserve to feel good too! So, until next time, keep it real, mommas!
